Each year, we run a comprehensive geophysics field school at the start of the Fall semester. This school is for final year geophysics students and this year we will have about 32 students involved in field training in all aspects of geophysics field data collection and interpretation. The primary instructors of the field school are Adam Pidlisecky and Don Lawton, with extensive support from the Department of Geoscience and the CREWES Project.

This year, we plan on a new component in the student assessment. Instead of individual reports, we will divide the students into groups of 4 and each group will be responsible for creating two posters about their field school data collection and interpretation experience. We have arranged, in collaboration with John Fernando of the CSEG Executive, for the students to present their posters at the "Geophysics Lunchbox" on Wednesday, October 13. We are assembling a prestigious group of senior geophysicists from geophysical, oil and gas, and environmental companies to judge the presentations. We feel that this type of reality learning, call it "Geophysical Apprentice", is an excellent opportunity not only for students to gain presentation experience and discuss science on their feet, but also for chief geophysicists and recruitment staff from companies to see this year's crop of graduating geophysics students. We invite you and your staff to attend the event, view the posters and talk to the students.
Sincerely,
Don Lawton & Adam Pidlisecky
