Audience:

This course should be taken by junior Geophysical and Geological technicians, data archivers and data managers. This course is recommended for potential students in the Geophysical certificate program at SAIT.

Course Description:

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to comprehend the basic principles involved in 2D seismic data acquisition and processing as well as the overall sequence of steps from field tapes to final seismic sections and analysis of SEGY data.

Presenter / Instructor Biography:

John R. Fernando is a full-time instructor at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in the Exploration Information Technology (EXPT) program. John has also instructed the Geophysical Certificate Program for the Continuing Education department. Prior to his teaching career at SAIT, John worked for sixteen years in the Oil and Gas industry as a data processing Geophysicist at Geophysical Service Incorporated, Halliburton Geophysical Services, Western Atlas International Incorporated and Kelman Technologies Incorporated. John received B.Sc. degrees in Geology and Microbiology from the University of Calgary and was one of ten participants in the 1984 one-year Geophysics training program held at the GSI's Area Geophysicist University in Dallas, Texas. His work experience includes both Land and Marine 2D and 3D data processing, in Calgary and in Brunei. He is also a member of the CSEG and SEG.
